SAGE – Substance Abuse Group Education
The SAGE (Substance Abuse Group Education) Program is a five-week educational curriculum on substance abuse. This program might be right for those who have experienced negative repercussions from substance use that may or may not have involved legal interaction. Patients must have a referral and need to attend all five sessions, which cover the following:
- Disease Model
- Alcohol
- Marijuana
- Amphetamines/Cocaine
- Opiates/Benzos
A urine analysis (UA) will be taken from the patient at the beginning of the first and last class. Patients whose UA is not clean will be allowed to start the program; however, completing the program requires the UA taken at the previous course to be free of all substances to be discharged from the program. Please get in touch with UCS at 515-280-3860 or ucsinformation@ucsdsm.org to find out when the next SAGE session begins.
- Patients are required to arrive at least 30 minutes early for the first and last class so that all UAs can be taken before class.
- When attending the first class, patients will sign an information/release paper allowing UCS to send the discharge summary to the proper authorities (Referral Source, Probation Officer, DHS, etc.)
- SAGE is FREE to all residents of Iowa.
